Michael Tavera (born September 24, 1961) is an American composer who composed the first two seasons of ¡Mucha Lucha! including "The Return of El Maléfico" movie. He is best known for his animation scores, television series, live-action films, and direct-to-video movies.
Biography[]
Tavera grew up in Los Angeles to perform and compose music. He was always playing piano and since then, became a pianist that would lead him to master music. While he was in high school, Tavera started his career by creating an original musical as a songwriter and performer in several bands he’s involved in. He moved to Los Angeles and landed a deal with Criterion Music Publishing. Despite his performance, he studied conducting in music theory, wrote some songs, and formed large orchestra bands, which led him to composing music for television shows.
He first composed for a television game show, Star Search, running in syndication from 1983 to 1995. Later on, he composed for films starting with a black comedy film, Lucky Stiff. He also made a three-picture deal with Walt Disney Studios to compose films such as Mr. Magoo, Rocket Man, and Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves. He also composed scores for many animated television series and films produced from Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and Disney Channel.
